Summary

Description

"Wu men"

English: Meridian Gate (view N) Forbidden City, Beijing

Also called the "Noon Gate," perhaps because of its location in the middle of the south wall where the sun is highest at noon, Wu Men is the principal entrance to the Forbidden City. The emperor would appear on the balcony when reviewing the army, and during the New Year's ceremony and other special events.

Deutsch: Beijing - Verbotene Stadt(Blick N) - Mittagstor
