Summary

Description
English: Drawing of a seal of Berthold IV, Duke of Zähringen (r. 1152–1186). Note: this seal relates to Berthold IV, not Berthold V as stated in the filename.

Based on drawings of a seal attested in documents dated 1157, 1169 and 1179 at Altenriff (Hauterive) Abbey. The original seal impressions were not available to Zell in 1858 and have apparently been lost.

Preserved original seals of both Berthold IV and Berthold V are of the equestrian type. A seal of 1187 (of Berthold V) shows a heraldic eagle on the horseman's shield.
