Les flammes désignent les trois incendies qui ravagèrent la ville (1324, 1477 et 1479). La devise est donc "triplex victoria flammis" : trois fois victorieuse des flammes.

Attention, cette image ne correspond pas complètement au blasonnement, le lion ne devrait pas être couronné.
