Français : « Robert et Herbert du Quesnoy, au XIIIe s., sont mentionnés dans des chartes. Ce seraient les premiers seigneurs connus du Quesnoy, en Artois. L'un d'eux, dit seulement "le seigneur du Quesnoy" serait tombé en 1415 à la bataille d'Azincourt. D'après les auteurs de l'Armorial du Pas-de-Calais (t. I, 1994), qui avaient fait la suggestion de ce blason communal, "les armes de cette famille seraient d'or à l'aigle éployée de sable". Nous sommes donc au conditionnel, mais le blason a été adopté. Une précision paraît nécessaire : il existe plusieurs autres familles du Quesnoy en Artois et en Picardie, avec autant de blasons que de familles. Guillaume du Quesnoy, châtelain d'Hesdin en 1348, portait aussi une aigle éployée (Damay, Inventaire des sceaux de l'Artois, 1877). Mais Damay le donne pour originaire de Quesnoy-en-Vimeu (aujourd'hui Quesnoy-le-Montant). Il fait erreur. C'était bien un chevalier artésien. Les du Quesnoy du Vimeu, seigneurs de Quesnoy-en-Vimeu aux XIIIe et XIVe s., portaient, eux, trois fasces et une bande brochante. Les du Quesnoy artésiens, portaient bien selon Belleval, qui dit Boulonnais, (Nobiliaire de Ponthieu et de Vimeu, t. II, 1864, p 252) : d'or à l'aigle éployée de sable. Et la commune du Quesnoy, en Artois, est toute autorisée à les relever. (J. Dulphy) » |
