Summary
| Description |
Bothriolepis fossil on display at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. Bothriolepis was first identified by Karl Eichwald in 1840. It lived from about 397 to 360 million years ago. This was a heavy armored, foot-long fish with a mouth on the underside of its head. It probably lived in estuaries and swept its head from side to side, sensing worms and molluscs in the sand and digging for them with its snout. The date and place where this fossil was found, and the species, is irritatingly not provided by the museum. |
