Zentralbild Brüggmann Stu-Brü-Qu 7.8.1960 DDR-Sportler zur Olympiade 1960 nach Rom Gisela Birkemeyer, 28 Jahre alt, Leutnant der Deutschen Volkspolizei, Stadtverordnete von Groß-Berlin und Hausfrau wird als Favoritin im 80-m-Hürdenlauf bei den Olympischen Spielen in Rom die Deutsche Demokratische Republik vertreten. 1956 erkämpfte sie bei der Olympiade in Melbourne im 70-m-Hürdenlauf die Silbermedaille. Seit 1951 trainiert sie unter der Anleitung von Heinz Birkenmeyer, der seit 3 Jahren ihr Ehemann ist. Ihre Spezialdisziplin ist 100 m und 200 m Lauf, sowie 80-m-Hürdenlauf. Seit 1952 hat Gisela Birkemeyer erfolgreich an über 1000 Wettkämpfen teilgenommen. Unter anderem errang sie 53 Einzelsiege und war an 17 Länderkämpfen beteiligt. Im Juli 1960 stellte sie mit 10,5 Sek. einen Weltrekord im 80-m-Hürdenlauf auf. UBz: Im 80-m-Hürdenlauf errang Gisela Birkemeyer bei der Olympiade in Melbourne den 2. Platz. Aber nur ausdauerndes Training kann die guten sportlichen Ergebnisse halten und noch weiter verbessern. |
