Unknown, since this is a trade advertisement from a magazine |
Source (WP:NFCC#4) | Original publication: TV Guide magazine Immediate source: http://www.itsabouttv.com/2013_09_01_archive.html |
Date of publication | 4th week of September 1965 (exact issue date and number unknown) |
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | CBS Thursday Night Movie |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | Since the film "The Notorious Landlady" is specifically discussed in the Wikipedia article (under the section "Controversy"), it seemed an ideal choice to use this image in representing the article's content. |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
During its heyday, TV Guide was one of the best-selling weekly publications on the print market. As such, the appearance of one of its advertisements will more effectively evoke the time period in which the CBS Thursday Night Movie premiered. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | The image herein will be used only by me in conjunction with the Wikipedia article, "CBS Thursday Night Movies." |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
As stated before, the image is taken from a 1965 magazine issue. This was 50 years ago. It is therefore doubtful that, in the intervening time, a copyright (if any) has been renewed by either TV Guide or CBS or Columbia Pictures, the original distributor of the film "The Notorious Landlady." However, since the film itself was (and still is) available to the public domain for duplication and distribution, it is highly probable that Columbia Pictures allowed the copyright to lapse without renewal. Based upon this information, the image used here is declared as fair use. Additionally, the image has been neither cropped nor blurred nor sharpened in any way. |

[edit]Description |
This is a 50-year-old advertisement designed by commercial artists to promote one of the films shown as part of the 1965-66 TV season of the CBS Thursday Night Movie. |

Source |
The image was downloaded from a blogsite, http://www.itsabouttv.com/2013_09_01_archive.html. Though the copyright holder is unknown, it is reasonable to assume it was the CBS television network. The ad is for an old film televised 50 years ago. It is not known whether that copyright was ever renewed. Nonetheless, the image here is declared as fair use. Justification is argued in the content below. |
Article | |
Portion used |
The entire image as it appeared on the above linked blogsite. No attempt has been made to alter the image in any way, shape, or form. No cropping or blurring of the image was used. |
Low resolution? |
The image is of suitable clarity; moveover, its appearance will in no way harm the reputation of the responsible commercial artists or copyright holder(s). |
Purpose of use |
The purpose of the image is to augment the content of the article it accompanies by including a representative scene from one of the series' more significant broadcasts as discussed specifically in one of the article's sections. |
Replaceable? |
The image is used here to evoke a sense of the type of graphic artistry used in commercial art during the early 1960's, the time period of the CBS Thursday Night Movie's premiere. It thus communicates what cannot be effectively conveyed by words alone. |
Other information |
The use of the image will not affect the value of the original commercial artwork or limit a copyright holder's rights or ability to distribute the original. |
