Summary

Description
English: Castello di Maniace, near Bronte, Sicily, in 1876. Caput of the Duchy of Bronte, awarded to Admiral Lord Nelson in 1799 by the King of Sicily. Viewed from north across the dried up river bed of the River Saraceno, with Mount Etna in the background (the main crater of which is 15 km away to the south-east).

Source Royal Collection, DM 5670 [1]; possibly presented by the 5th Duke of Bronte, a royal courtier who entertained the king at his villa (Villa Falconara) in nearby Taormina, Sicily.
Author Sir John Walrond Walrond, 1st Baronet (1818–1889), of Bradfield House in the parish of Uffculme, Devon, son-in-law of the 3rd Duchess of Bronte.
