Description

17th century Chinese illustrations of metallurgy from the Tiangong Kaiwu encyclopedia published in 1637, written by the Ming Dynasty encyclopedist Song Yingxing (1587-1666). The top illustration shows the casting process of a ten thousand catty ding tripod vessel. The bottom left illustration shows the casting of a thousand catty bell. The bottom right illustration shows the casting of a Buddha statue.

This picture also appears on page 161 of of E-tu Zen Sun and Shiou-Chuan Sun's translation (Pennsylvania State University Press, 1966).
