English: Central Elementary School — 311-313 New Street, New Bern, North Carolina. Founded in 1764 and built c. 1806, New Bern Academy is the oldest public school building in North Carolina, and one of the oldest in America. This early 19th-century building served as a military hospital during the Civil War (Academy Green Hospital) and returned to school functions until 1971. It now houses exhibits focusing on the history of New Bern, including much on the Civil War.
