(Rodolph (talk) 20:21, 19 February 2014 (UTC)) From BM: 'This belongs to a group of loose drawings found in the Aynscombe album, probably by Charlotte Aynscombe, although it is not clear whether she took lessons from Alexander or John Robert Cozens, or whether she made the sketches after the purchase of the other contents of the album at the 1794 sale. For the album of which this is a part see 2010,7072.1 to 51 and 'A Cozens Album in the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth', by Paul Joyner and Kim Sloan, Walpole Society, LVII, 1993- 1994. The album probably belonged to Miss Charlotte Ayscombe and passed through her descendants to Major J. O. De Salis who consigned it to Christie's in 1982. At that point, 8 drawings by Alexander and John Robert Cozens were removed from the album and sold separately (lots 5-9); the album, lot 10, was purchased by Christopher Lennox-Boyd who removed 61 etchings by Waterloo before consigned it for sale in 1991 when it was bought in, and again in 2008 when it was purchased by Alec Stirling (BM was underbidder). Six drawings were removed before it was purchased from him by BM. This is similar to the type of drawing Alexander Cozens produced for his students to copy in the late 1750s.

It is closely related in composition to examples in his 1759 publication, 'An Essay to Facilitate the Inventing of Landskips' (see Kim Sloan, 'A New Chronology for Alexander Cozens part II: 1759-86', The Burlington Magazine, Volume 127, No. 987 (June, 1985), pp. 355–363, where this drawing is reproduced in fig. 21 and it is suggested that it might be by Charlotte Aynscombe who originally owned the album from which this drawing was removed.'
