Summary

Description

Conus regius Gmelin, 1791 - apertural view of a royal cone snail shell, 3.7 cm tall.

Family Conidae - conid snails are famous for being predators of various marine invertebrates and sometimes fish. A conid essentially shoot a toxic dart at prey, which immobilizes or kills, permitting the cone snail to consume the prey with minimal risk of damage to itself.
