Purpose of use |
The image is used to identify the following notable public facility: the Seal of the Borough of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify a facility (such as a road, airport, station, city, neighborhood, or the like), and assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the facility. There is commentary in the article about the logo itself as follows: "I'm not sure when this seal was created, or who created it, but one of the four images seems to depict a piece of glassware that likely represents the Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company, which was located in Coraopolis from 1895 until 1963. The second image depicts a steam train that likely represents the early days of the community when the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad had an interchange with the Montour Railroad, and when steam trains were common. The third image depicts a fortified blockhouse that is likely meant to represent Vance Fort (or Fort Vance), which was built by Capt. Robert Vance around 1773. The fort no longer exists, but it was once located around present-day Broadway and Chestnut streets, near Second Avenue. The fourth image likely represents the Coraopolis Bridge, which was a truss bridge over the back channel of the Ohio River connecting Grand Avenue on Neville Island to Ferree Street in Coraopolis. The bridge was built in 1892, demolished in 1994 and replaced in 1995. The bottom of the seal says, 'Incorporated 1886'." |
