The statue of Ban Josip Jelačić (1801-1859). He was a military general and politician who became Ban of Croatia in 1848. Jelačić is remembered for his military campaigns during the Revolutions of 1848 and the abolition of serfdom in Croatia. This statue by Anton Dominik Fernkorn was erected in 1866. It originally faced north, toward Hungary, but today faces south.
