| Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | The still is taken from a seminal performance by Ono of Cut Piece, one of the key works associated with Fluxus. The still accurately documents the tension (including the size of the scissors) that a description alone could not provide; since fluxus is primarily a visual art movement that was at the forefront of many new artforms in the sixties, examples of some of the key works should clearly be included on the page. This still accurately conveys one of these radical works by one of the most important and influential members of the group. I want to include examples of the performances, multiples, distribution network and theory of the group; this image exemplifies the performance aspects of the group. |

There are very few images of performance art on wikipedia; this is a key early example, and illustrates the tension, bravery and menace implicit in the work. Each performance has been different; Ono remembered the american audience at Carnegie Hall to be less inhibited than the Japanese performance, but less wild than the london version (Yes, Ono, Abrams 2000, p158. I wanted to illustrate the piece demands action from the audience to complete the work. Words alone could never accurately describe this. |
