Deutsch: „Im oberen Feld im von Silber (Weiß) und Blau wellig geteilten Schild befindet sich der blaugekrönte, blaubewehrte und doppelschwänzige rote bergische Löwe, im unteren Feld ein silberner (weißer) Fisch mit roten Flossen.“ Mit Erlass des Ministers des Inneren in Berlin vom 09.01.1914 IV a 2893 wurde der Stadt das Recht verliehen, ein Wappen zu führen. Es wird in der gemäß Beschluss des Rates der Stadt Leichlingen (Rheinland) vom 06.10.1940 beschlossenen Form geführt.
English: „The arms are based on the old 17th century seal of Leichlingen. The upper part shows the lion of the Counts of Berg, as the area historically belonged to the county of Berg. The lower part shows a fish, which may be a symbol for the fisheries in the Wupper river. It may also be that the fish is taken from the arms of the Lords of Vorst, near Leichlingen, who seem to have used a fish in their arms in the 14th century. In 1416 the estate was inherited by Volkwin of Hückeswagen, who used a fish in his arms for Vorst.“
