Object history
Deutsch: Schon das älteste, aus stilistischen Gründen wohl um 1380 entstandene Siegel, das in Abdrucken von 1387 bis 1536 überliefert ist, zeigt im Schild den widersehenden und gekrönten Löwen. Dabei handelt es sich um das apokryphe Wappen der Grafen von Velburg. Im Wernigeroder Wappenbuch (1486/92) wird der Löwe rot in Silber gezeigt, bei Siebmacher 1605 gekrönt und schreitend auf grünem Dreiberg. Die Siegel behielten bis zum 19. Jahrhundert die ursprüngliche Form bei. Die heutige Tingierung lässt sich durch heraldische Schraffierungen erstmals 1818 nachweisen und wird seit 1819 auf der Bürgermeistermedaille und im Dienstsiegel bestätigt. Die Krone wurde im 19. Jahrhundert auch golden oder blau tingiert. 1969 wurde das Wappen in der aktuell gültigen Form neu festgesetzt.
