Summary[edit]

Media data and Non-free use rationale
Description This is a single frame of the scene from 1977's Star Wars where the Rebel Alliance pilots are being briefed on their attack on the Death Star. The blueprints being displayed on the screen were produced using months of effort on a PDP-11/45 computer outputting to a Vector General 3D display and then captured using an animation camera who's shutter and film advance were controlled by the computer.

Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Vector General
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) The briefing scene in Star Wars is one of the earliest examples of extended computer animation being used in a feature film. Earlier efforts were generally hand animated to look like a computer, as in the case of 2001. This sequence took many months to complete using considerable amounts of high-end hardware, including a Vector General monitor and a PDP-11/45 computer.
