Description
English: Detail of Demenico Ghirlandaio's fresco Pietà("Lamentation"), from the Cappella Vespucci in the church of Ognissanti, Florence. Historians (e.g. Razzolli, 1955; Arciniegas, 1955) believe this depicts the Dominican scholar Fra Giorgio Antonio Vespucci (in black) and, to his left (in red), his nephew and pupil, the c.20-year-old Amerigo Vespucci, the future navigator.
