Other information
English: From the newspaper article: DANIEL FREEMAN. "He is big man—big heart—big brain. So I make him big leader and give him the sword and the cap and the gown of one great Japanese man which has power over many and has large—you call it retinue, is it not?—of those which follow him in all things. You call him Duke of the Inglewood? Ah, that is good. He has much lands and property, you say? That is good; so much I see in his face and I know you tell truly," said Aoki. To which should be added that Mr. Freeman is a prince of raconteurs, and a nabob among entertainers. Aoki's fancy has given him the peculiar costume of the temple that marks more the distinction of learning and a largess of possessions that a sacredness of office—though both are combined in the garb. It was as High Priest of the Chamber of Commerce that Aoki probably fancied Mr. Freeman, but he has resigned that position now, though he remains an active and earnest member of that body which is to the commercial prosperity of Southern California all the temples of Japan are to the morals of the empire.
