English: Components, from left to right:
  • i = mechanical power input from internal combustion engine
  • TD = torque dampener
  • P1 = planetary gear set #1
  • MG-A = motor/generator A
  • P2 = planetary gear set #2
  • MG-B = motor/generator B
  • P3 = planetary gear set #3
  • C1 = clutch 1 (stationary)
  • C2 = clutch 2 (rotating)
  • o = mechanical power output from hybrid drive unit

Note the three planetary gear sets are compounded:

  • The sun gear of P1 is coupled to the ring gear of P2
  • The sun gears of P2 and P3 are coupled
  • The pinion carriers of P1 and P2 are coupled, and may be selectively coupled to the output shaft when C2 is engaged
