DescriptionEngraved windows in St Nicholas Church, Moreton, Dorset - geograph.org.uk - 1389458.jpg
English: Engraved windows in St Nicholas Church, Moreton, Dorset. When my old uncle William Verlander was preparing to move into sheltered accommodation, he passed on to me his collection of family documents. Among them were two postcards of some engraved windows. He explained that he had made them or, at least, he was part of the team that did. They were pictures of the above windows. I knew that in the 1950s he was employed as a highly skilled glass engraver working for the London Sandblast Company in the East End of London, and it was his hands that guided the cutting wheel for the five windows in the semi-circular apse pictured. He also did similar work on the engraved reredos at Sherborne Abbey, whilst at the glass firm of T&W Ide. See1500548 He sadly died in the year 2000.
