A personagem representada é Hermano José Braamcamp de Almeida Castelo Branco (figura de homem adulto, de cabelo grisalho escuro e rosto glabro, sentado numa cadeira de espaldar forrada de veludo vermelho e com ornatos dourados nos braços, apresentado de costas para o espectador, voltado a três quartos para a direita, em perspectiva cavaleira, olhando em frente, com o braço direito esticado e mão apoiada sobre um livro, vestindo fraque cinzento e calças claras). Assinado e datado no canto inferior esquerdo: "V. Salgado, 1920".
English: Study of human figures for the painting "The Constituent Courts of 1821", by Veloso Salgado. The depicted character is Hermano José Braamcamp de Almeida Castelo Branco (an adult man, with greying hair and shaven face, sitting on an armchair upholstered in red velour with golden fixtures on its arms, with his backed turned to the viewer, turned three-quarters to the right, looking ahead, with his right arm outstretched and his right hand on a book, wearing a gray coat and white trousers). Signed and dated on the lower left corner: "V. Salgado, 1920".
