| Description | A Grumman F3F-3P Wildcat reconnaissance plane of U.S. Marine Corps observation squadron VMO-251 at Espiritu Santo in late 1942. Although used for reconnaissance at Guadalcanal, none of the F4F-3Ps saw combat. However, many of VMO-251´s pilots helped to fill the ranks of the understrength fighter squadrons on Guadalcanal until the squadron became fully operational. Note the squadron insignia. |
