L'opera, si ispira al ciclo "uomini e donne illustri" di Andrea Del Castagno, del quale riproduce lo stile delle architetture che inquadrano la figura. Francesco Ferrucci vi è riprodotto con un'uniforme da Comandante delle Milizie Fiorentine dell'epoca dell'assedio di Firenze del 1530. Ha in testa il classico "bacinetto" fiorentino e tiene nella mano destra l'insegna del comando. Sulla fascia scarlatta è riportato il simbolo della Repubblica Fiorentina, una croce bianca in campo rosso. Il cippo marmoreo presente in basso rappresenta idealmente un cippo di confine per indicare il luogo dove operò Francescol Ferrucci. Sul cippo infatti, accanto al giglio fiorentino, è rappresentato lo stemma dell'attuale comune di San Marcello Pistoiese al quale appartiene la frazione di Gavinana dove avvenne la battaglia nella quale il comandante venne ferito e successivante ucciso.
