| Description |
English: Firsby station site, 1992. View NE on B1165 Station Road at the point where the ex-GNR Peterborough - Spalding - Boston - (to the left) Grimsby main line used to cross, until the 5/10/70 when Firsby station was closed along with all traffic northward to Grimsby, except that goods Louth - Grimsby lasted until 3/10/80. The Mablethorpe Loop (Willoughby - Louth) was also closed on 5/10/70 and the Firsby - Spilsby branch had been closed since 1/12/58 (passenger service ceased 11/9/39). Also the main line Spalding - Boston was closed from 5/10/70, leaving only (Lincoln - Woodhall Junction) - Boston - Firsby South Junction - Skegness, the north - east curve at Firsby being abandoned. In 1992 there was a railway gatepost left and probably the house up the drive on the left had belonged to Firsby station, but an extraordinary transformation had occurred here in nearly 22 years. |
