Freshfield signal box located alongside the Down Main line by Victoria Road level crossing in Formby.
Freshfield signal box was a Saxby and Farmer Type 9 design built in 1878 for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. The original 22 lever Saxby and Farmer frame was tappet relocked on 25th May 1910 and replaced in 1927 was by a second hand 20 lever Railway Signal Company Tappet frame. The box was reduced to a non block post on 21st March 1994, supervising the adjacent level crossing only and closure came on 1st May 1994 when control of the level crossing passed to the Merseyrail Integrated Electronic Control Centre
