Summary
| Description |
English: The Mars volcano, Olympus Mons, is probably the best known extraterrestrial volcano. The summit forms a nested caldera with six overlapping collapse pits that collectively measure ~65 x ~80 kilometers (km). This map created by Dr. Mouginis-Mark highlights the complex history of the caldera, and shows some surprises, like the peak of the volcano (the tallest known is the solar system) being in an unexpected position. |
