Summary

Description
English: Drawing of a Graham, or deadbeat, clock escapement. Invented by astronomer Richard Towneley in 1675 and first widely used by British clockmaker George Graham in his precision regulators around 1715, the deadbeat escapement was a more accurate version of the anchor escapement. In the 19th century it replaced the anchor escapement as the standard escapement in quality pendulum clocks, and is used in almost all modern pendulum clocks. Alterations: Removed captions and labels, replaced labels in color, added dotted lines, moved arrow from top of wheel to side, drew in pendulum crutch. Labeled parts: (a) escape wheel (b) pallets, showing concentric locking faces (c) pendulum crutch
