Commercial studio portrait of the Sibree family including (from left to right, Mary Sibree and her husband, Percy Milledge, Dr James Sibree, Dr. Alice Sibree, Mrs Deborah Sibree, Herbert John Hyde Sibree (1885-1962)? and Elsie Sibree; James Sibree first went to Madagascar as an architect in 1863, supervising the construction of the Martyr Memorial churches. He left Madagascar in 1867 to return to England to train as a missionary, receiving ordination in 1870. He returned to Madagascar 1870-1877 and 1883-1916, also serving a year in India 1879-1880. Sibree wrote and translated many publications, as well as planning over a hundred missionary buildings. Dr. Alice Sibree (1876 -1928) served as a medical missionary in Hong Kong 1903-1909. Mary Sibree (1874-1926) served 1898-1926. She married the LMS missionary Percy Milledge (1874-1907) in 1901and they served the Imerina mission until Milldege's death from typhoid in 1907. Elsie Sibree (1881-1969) also served in Madagascar 1904-1954. |
