Summary
DescriptionHarvard Museum of Natural History. Meteor from Coahuila (DerHexer) 2012-07-20.jpg |
English: Coahuila meteorite, Harvard Museum of Natural History. Text: "Iron, hexahydrite, IIAB Coahuila, Mexico Found 1837 This specimen is part of a meteor shower that long ago dropped over 2,000 kilograms (4,400 lbs) of meteorite fragments in the area around Coahuila, Mexico. Scientists studying the chemistry and structure of Coahuila meteorites, verify that they were once part of a single, larger body. Judging from the volume of meteorite fragments left behind, the original object must have been huge and the resulting shower spectacular. The Mineralogical Museum of Harvard University holds the largest mass of Coahuila meteorite fragments in the world" |
