Non-free media information and use rationale true for Iichirō Hatoyama
Description

In 1986, Iichirō Hatoyama (鳩山威一郎, Hatoyama Ichirō) in the center is flanked by his two sons -- Yukio Hatoyama (鳩山由紀夫, Hatoyama Yukio) at left and Kunio Hatoyama (鳩山邦夫) at right. The photo commemorates the fact that all three are elected members of the Diet of Japan. The father (Iichirō) had been in the House of Councilors since 1974; the younger brother (Kunio) had been in the House of Representatives since 1976; and the older brother (Yukio) was elected to the House of Representatives in 1986.

Portion used

The entire group photograph is used to convey the impression intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image.

Low resolution?

The digitized image of the original photograph is a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the Mianichi Shimbun and the central figure in this image without being unnecessarily high resolution.

Purpose of use

The significance of the image is to help the reader identify the historical personin the center of this image, to assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about this prominent figure in Japanese history and politics, and illustrate the life of this member of the Hatoyama family in a way that words alone could not convey.

Replaceable?

Because it is a significant photograph, there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the impression intended by the Mainichi Shimbun and/or Iichirō Hatoyama; and this might tarnish or misrepresent this person's image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.
