Summary

Description
English: Homo erectus reconstruction, Natural History Museum, London

Within these hallowed halls Revenge one does not know. (Mozart, Magic Flute)

7Artisans 35mm manual lens at F1.2, ambient light.

Natural History Museum, London. This attempt at reconstructing the head of homo erectus one may like nor not. However, so far, this version of humankind, alive for over a million years and spread across Africa, Asia and Europe, was most successful, until Neanderthal Man some 300 000 years ago took over. Homo erectus survived because they had 'culture' - tool making, domestication of fire, nomadic life style with semi-permanent camps and houses. Whether they had stories, hence, language and art, we do not know. If they had not, then they must have been blissfully unaware of the dilemma of the human condition - then, they were innocent, just like Adam and Eve before the Fall.
