Summary

Description
English: Constructed during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines for defensive purposes, the Ilagan Japanese Tunnel served as a headquarters and armory for the Japanese Imperial Army in World War II. It housed weaponry, served as makeshift offices and quarters, and was rumored to store treasures like a Golden Buddha replica, gold bouillons, coins, diamonds, platinum, and other valuables. Watchtowers strategically placed above detected potential American forces assaults. Although the 40-meter-long, 3.66-meter-wide tunnel has revealed passageways, rooms, vintage armaments, and artifacts, its full extent remains unexplored. Despite Ilagan's city status, this tunnel in Brgy, Sto. Tomas, is the only documented and preserved one, showcasing its historical significance as an eco-tourism attraction.
