The simplest case of a neighbourhood topology is the unidirectional ring neighbourhood represented by the black arrows. Other neighbourhood topologies are possible. For example, the neighbourhood relationships of the unidirectional ring are significantly expanded by adding the green links, which allows for faster spread of genetic information throughout the entire population.
