Description
English: In October, 1910 Jersey City celebrated the 250th Anniversary of its founding as the town of Bergen by the Dutch in 1660. Children from Public School # 11, on the oldest continual school site in New Jersey, presented tableaux commemorating the early events in the city's history. The exercises were presented at Bergen Square, the heart of the original settlement, to an audience numbering over 15,000. Students depicting Sam Fraunces, who ran Fraunces Tavern in Manhattan, telling Jane Tuers of the village of Bergen that he overheard British soldiers toasting an American traitor named Arnold who was to deliver West Point. Tuers told her brother, Daniel Van Reypen, who in turn informed Generals Wayne and Washington
