Summary

Description
English: Shown here circa 1907, John H. Haight (1841-1917) was awarded the U.S. Medal of Honor for his display of valor during the American Civil War. While serving as a sergeant with Company G of the 72nd New York Infantry, he voluntarily carried a severely wounded comrade off the field in the face of a large force of the enemy at Williamsburg, Virginia on May 5, 1862. In the process, he was severely wounded and taken prisoner. Although disabled by his injuries, he still fought at Bristol Station, Virginia, and also volunteered to search the woods for wounded men at Manassas.
