Description
English: "John Henderson of Fordell", painted by George Jamesone likely c. 1635-37. Later inscribed in lower right: "SIR JOHN HENDERSON of FORDEL who having travelled in the early part of his life thro' many remote Countries in ASIA & AFRICA and distinguished himself in the Wars of EUROPE returned to his native COUNTRY in the Reign of CHARLES the FIRST & had a COMMAND in the ROYAL army." Formerly displayed in Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Canvas: 25 x 22 3/4 in.
