English: Image shows the mountain man, John Turner, defending his camp during an Indian attack in 1835. This image is based on an engraving by C. Nahl entitled "The Frightened grizzly." It was published as an illustration in The adventures of James Capen Adams, mountaineer and grizzly bear hunter, of California; published in San Francisco by Towne & Bacon, 1860; original illustration is on p. 111. The original Public Domain image was cropped and modified in 2015 to show an important event in John Turner's life.
