English: Joseph Bown was an Idaho pioneer, arriving in 1863. He was born in Nottingham, England, February 18, 1829, and he died in Boise December 6, 1915. In 1841 Bown and his father moved to Lake County, Illinois. Bown married Temperance Statira Hall in 1853. The Bowns later moved to Waterloo, Iowa. Joseph Bown followed the Oregon Trail west, and he was a mining prospector in Idaho City in 1863. He later settled near Boise City in that year. In 1865 Bown returned to Iowa and moved his family to Boise City. Bown Way and Bown Crossing are named for Joseph and Temperance Bown. The Joseph Bown House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
