Summary

Description

The monument commemorate the arrival of the Kanrin Maru, the first Japanese naval ship in San Francisco Bay, on 17 March 1860. It was presented to the City of San Francisco by its sister city, Osaka, as part of a centennial celebration of the opening of their diplomatic relations.

Behind the monument, a Cosco container ship is about to sail under the Golden Gate bridge.
