Die Vorlage dazu bot eine deutsche Karikatur auf die Karlsbader Beschlüsse um 1820 mit der Bezeichnung „Der Denker-Club”: . Auf dem Schild steht der Text "Wie lange möchte uns das Denken wohl noch erlaubt bleiben?"
English: Contemporary Swiss caricature against the new laws restricting the freedom of press in Lucerne 1829. The text in the box reads: "How long will we be allowed to think?". This caricature is based on an earlier German version against the Carlsbad Decrees, 1820
