Summary

Description
Nederlands: De toenemende activiteit van Somalische piraten vormde in 2008 een serieuze dreiging voor de vrije internationale zeevaart. Piraten gijzelden tientallen koopvaardijschepen met hun bemanningen voor losgeld. Toenmalig minister van Defensie Hans Hillen vond dat Nederland als zeevarend land meer moest doen tegen de Somalische piraten. Zodoende ontstond Task Force Barracuda. De eenheid bestond uit Netherlands Maritime Special Operations Forces (NLMARSOF) van het Korps Mariniers. Barracuda kreeg de opdracht om de piraterij te bestrijden en wel zo dicht mogelijk tegen de kustlijn.
