Summary

Description
English: Partial regression plot of annual rate of growth in real GDP per capita vs. scores on standardized tests of student achievement 1960-2000, both adjusted from 1960 GDP per capita. This is similar to Figure 1.1 in Hanushek and Woessmann (2015) but created from the first 8 rows of their Table 1A.1. Also, it's not clear what countries are included in "E-ASIA" in their Figure 1.1. "ASIA" in this plot includes China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. "ASIA" here includes the major countries in Southeast and South Asia, which are not normally considered part of East Asia. Sub-Saharan Africa (SSAFR) here includes only Ghana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Middle East and North Africa (MENA) includes Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey. Southern Europe (S_EUR) includes Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, and Spain. Latin America (LATAM) includes Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay. Central Europe (C_EUR) includes Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. Northern Europe (N_EUR) includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. OECD countries include Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States. GDP data came from the Penn World Table.
