Description

Lafayette Square, New Orleans, early 20th century.

"Showing City Hall, Soule's College and Palmer's Church". From left to right "Palmer's Church" was the old First Presbyterian Church, which was destroyed by the New Orleans Hurricane of 1915. Most of the other buildings visible are still standing, including the Soule College building (the red brick at center facing the square) and City Hall (now called Gallier Hall, as the City Hall has been relocated elsewhere, the neo-Classical white building facing the square right of center).
Date Not dated. Between 1900 (when the Henry Clay statue at the center of the park was moved here from Canal Street) and September 1915 (when the Church was blown down by the Great Storm).
