Summary

Description The Latchis Hotel and Theatre on Main Street at Flat Street in Brattleboro, Vermont, was built in 1938 in the Art Deco style by the Latchis family to honor Demetrius P. Latchis; it was originally called the Latchis Memorial Building. The hotel originally had 60 rooms, a ballroom, a 1200 seat movie theatre, a coffee shop, dining room and gift shop. In 2003, the building was purchased by the Brattleboro Arts Initiative with the Preservation Trust of Vermont, with the intention of creating an arts center for downtown Brattleboro. The building now includes a 30-room boutique hotel, a 750-seat movie theatre, two additional screens, and retail space; further renovations are planned. The bulding is located within the Brattleboro Downtown Historic District.
