Summary[edit]
Artist: "after Brion" (meaning it was copied from a painting by Brion, which was common in the 19th century for illustrations. The 'copy' would have been a work for hire for the publishing company.)
Gustave Brion lived from 1824-1877. This is from the original edition of Les Miserables (1862) and is a more complete version of the illustration than the first uploaded image.
