Description
English: Mural monument to Lewis Incledon (1636-1698) of Buckland House, Braunton, Devon. St Branock's Church, Braunton. Inscription: Top, in lunette below arms and crest of Incledon, supported by two winged cherubs, on a background of an antique trophy of arms: Mors janua vitae ("Death is the gateway to life"). Middle, a rectangular black tablet within two Corinthian columns with entablature above, with background of an antique trophy of arms, on top a shield of Incledon with inescutcheon of pretence of Wolf? (erased, only heiress whose arms would appear in this way and first ancestor named) on either side in margins three heraldic escutcheons (top left Incledon impaling Davills of Marland, Argent, a chevron embattled between three fleurs-de-lys sable (Pole, Sir William (d.1635), Collections Towards a Description of the County of Devon, Sir John-William de la Pole (ed.), London, 1791, p.479) Bottom left: Incledon impaling Argent, three combs sable; top right a triple impalement, Wyott (A horsebrake / barnacle (Pole, p.508)), Incledon, Collamore (erased), for Lewis Incledon (d.1657):

"Near this monument are inter'd ye body of Robert Incledon of Buckland, Gent, who married Agnes ye daughter of John Wolf of this p(ar)ish, Gent & was buried ye 25th day of Decemb.r 1558.

John Incledon Gent their son married Jane daughter of Lewis Davill of Marland, Esq & was buried ye 16th of Septemb.r 1570

Lewis Incledon Esq their son married first Grace ye daughter & heir of Robert Cranberry of Bratton Clovelly Gent, secondly Willmott daughter of Andrew Pomeroy of Collaton Esq and was buried ye 21st of Decemb.r 1614.

John Incledon Esq his son by his first venture married Philippy daughter of William Glyn of Glyn in ye county of Cornwall esq. Lewis Incledon Esq his son by his second venture married first Anne Wiot daughter of Phillip Wiot Esq, secondly Eliza daughter of Thomas Collemore of Liscott, Gent & was buried ye 6th of Aprill 1657.

John Incledon Esq his eldest son by his 2d venture married Honor daughter of William Pagett Esq & was buried ye 1st of June 1661.

Lewis Incledon Esq his 2d son by ye same venture married 1st Alice daughter of John Addington of Harloberry in ye county of Essex, Esq. 2ly Eliza daughter of ye Hon.ble Robert Fane of Combanck in ye countey of Kent Esq, a younger son to ye Right Hon.ble ye Earle of Westmorland & was buried ye 2d of February 1698. To whose memory chiefly this monument was erected by his widow Eliza Incledon & his son Henry Incledon".

At the bottom of the right margin is an escutcheon showing Incledon impaling dexter Per pale argent and sable, on a chevron between three fleurs de lys three... all counterchanged (Addington), sinister: Azure, three gauntlets or (Fane)

Below, with arms of Incledon impaling Davie:

"Mary wife of Henry Incledon & daughter of John Davie of Orligh Esq, was buried Sept.r 20th 1710 aetatis 30. Henry Incledon Esq.r ob(ii)t May 8th 1736 aged 62. John Incledon Esq.r his son ob(ii)t June 1746 aged 44"
