Summary
[edit]Description | Abigail DeVille's sculptural installation Light of Freedom (2020) at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC in 2022. A large torch-shaped cage made of welded steel is suspended by metal cables inside a 13 foot tall, 8 foot wide, square-shaped structure made of gold-painted scaffolding. Inside the handle of the torch-shaped cage is a reclaimed rusted school bell, and the flame portion of the cage is filled with outstretched mannequin arms painted blue. Several wooden planks lie across the layers of the scaffolding. The entire work rests on 4 small concrete pedestals in a patch of grass. Behind the sculpture are several trees and the walls of the sculpture garden. |
