English: Mechanism of oxidation of lysine to allysine catalyzed by lysyl oxidase, using the lysyl tyrosylquinone cofactor (LTQ). (1) LTQ reacts with lysine to form (2) a Schiff base, which then undergoes a rate-limiting deprotonation to yield the (3) aldimine. Hydrolysis yields the (4) aldehyde product allysine; molecular oxygen, copper and water regenerate LTQ. |
